Anyway, a good day for the #Threads developers as they can now ditch the interoperability with #ActivityPub given most of the #Fediverse instances will likely defederate now.

Anyway, a good day for the #Threads developers as they can now ditch the interoperability with #ActivityPub given most of the #Fediverse instances will likely defederate now. So as not to put all that coding to waste, though, they can just firehose content from #TruthSocial into their platform.

@neonbubble sad but I guess they were never really serious about federation unless on their own terms. In the end the few good people who federated loose out. Man social media and toxicity really are permanent bedfellows.
-
Yeah, I deleted my Threads account yesterday in anticipation of the expected defederation that would take place.
You could see from Adam Mosseri's posts and the way they dried up that development of the Threads ActivityPub interop had mostly come to a halt in recent months so Meta had probably made the decision to shift to a right-wing propaganda, controllable bot-heavy model instead of open engagement as soon as Trump won the election.

@emsquared@mastodon.social @neonbubble@mstdn.social if you don't mind my asking, what is this about? #outoftheloop

@neonbubble Follow the money eh. I could never grasp mass compliance with evil when I did history but I sure as hell get it now.
I really need to stop being an idealist. -
@julian re Meta deciding to remove fact checking from their platforms which effectively puts the nail in the coffin re their half hearted federation of Threads and the expectation that the majority of instances here will likely now block and defederate the visibility of threads accounts.

@emsquared@mastodon.social the way I see it, it's a public signalling of Meta away from social media and into entertainment.
Don't blame them, their social media presence has been on the decline for years.
