@deadsuperhero@social.wedistribute.org glad to hear it! I'm planning to continue working on improving our ActivityPub integration in 2025, hopefully with NLNet funding again

@CWSmith your user resolves with the URL https://community.darkscribes.com/user/cwsmith ... but the ActivityPub response identifies it as https://communuty.darkscribes.com/uid/1, which is not the correct URL. Please update config.json's url so the typo is fixed and test again

@AltCode are you still having issues with @deadsuperhero@forum.wedistribute.org's posts? I am able to see the post content here. Is it still blank for you?

@raginghungrypanda@lemm.ee for discovery, the best looking up-and-coming solution is Ghost. They've been around for a decade plus, but they're actively working on their ActivityPub integration. Early looks at their discovery reader is really promising. A separate tab for "Article" type posts, and another for "feed" type posts. A lot of the other long form softwares are aligning on the standard that Ghost will try to set... NodeBB, WriteFreely, WordPress, etc. They've all signalled compatibility with each other, which is great! For more, see @index@activitypub.ghost.org

@squinky@teh.entar.net in all seriousness it's entirely up to you which FEPs to support. Some FEPs have more adoption than others, so it would be wise to adopt them over time as well. Others deal with aspects of the protocol that may not even apply to your specific use case. There is no expectation that one should implement every FEP. Think of it this way: an FEP is a way to document in public (not in code!) how one or more implementations have approached a problem that the ActivityPub protocol spec did not cover. There may be a lot of them, they may be needlessly complicated, but it's better than having to dig through someone else's code base.

@jonny@neuromatch.social sure! NodeBB has it working now if you want to poke around on BrowserPub, just paste a topic URL into it. v4.0.0 can pull entire topics in already (assuming the remote end supports it.) When v4.1 drops you'll be able to do this via the topic URL itself.

Hi @robz@toot.robzazueta.com! (Thanks @beaware@social.beaware.live for bringing this to my attention) You're right, our website is more about our self-service hosting option, and that's because that's what pays our day-to-day bills. It's an unfortunate reality of the open-source development model. The project itself is licensed under GPLv3 and has always been this way. Your concerns over Automattic are well-founded and they also worry me. That said, NodeBB is free and open-source, and you are encouraged to self-host it. That has been our mantra from day one, and still remains that way today.

@evan@cosocial.ca cool! TIL, although I don't think it's applicable for me.
